Hubby and I have decided to make a move to Green Valley, in the near future. I have a friend who moved there and I now have been there two times this year and like the feel of the community, and the home prices and especially the taxes. We can no longer afford to live in our home here after he retires just due to that. $6000 a year is way to much for us.

One of my main concerns is the water supply there. I had read that within 10 years the water situation could be come very bad. And that the aquaifers were being depleted, with the main problem by the mines in the area because of no regulations as to use, once tapped into. What are your thoughts on this?

Also I know the recession hit the housing market very hard, but it looks as if the whole town of Green Valley is up for sale. I know a lot of the homes there are seasonal/rentals but I am still concerned. What are your feelings on that?

Thanks, I appreciate any feed back you can give me...

I am planning on moving from the area. I have a family member who works for ADWR and she told me that Green Valley is in serious trouble if FICO and Freeport continue to use at their current respective rates. The Colorado River is not a reliable source of water. Snow in the Rocky Mountains fall varies while FICO and Freeport continue down the 60+ acre feet per year path.

It is my understanding that Freeport is currently working on a project that will enable them to use recycled water for mining operations. this should decrease their usage of aquafer water substantially. Their project is estimated for completion by the end of 2013.
