So we will be cruising from Albuquerque to Los Angeles, and wanna make good time. I hear Arizona is pretty strict on speeding, any suggestions? Thanks!

Yes ….. act responsibly and confine your speeding to a drag strip!

Anything over 85 is a criminal (vs. civil) infraction in AZ. I try to keep it below that most of the time.

Be careful!
Pay attention!
Stay alert!
Don't be so overcome with the blinding beauty of Arizona that you forget about speed limit signs.

The Highway Patrol is out there. I often see them in the hills just East of Flagstaff. For me, 7 over the limit on cruise control keeps me from having to stress out and avoids the need for a radar detector.

It is like night and day compared with California. Here you will likely never be pulled over going well over the speed limit traveling along with a group of cars all going over the speed limit as long as you just drive responsibly, stay in your lane except when passing and don't tailgate. In Arizona it doesn't matter what anyone else is doing if you are speeding you are likely going to get nailed by the ever present Highway Patrol out there.

Likewise on I-10, I never go over the speed limit. Not worth it. It is like the Highway patrol comes out of the ground when you least expect it.

Interestingly, I was in Los Angeles recently, and it does seem like they have slower drivers than Phoenix. We were barely able to get over 70 in Los Angeles.

I’ve never had that experience. I usually hit cruise at around 80-85 and go with traffic.

If AZ is strict on speeding it’s not doing a good job.

Stay below 80 when the speed limit is 75. The DPS consider it fast enough. Construction zone speed limits are real. Cops are hard to see and big fines can result. Usually, the folks from out of state who think 80 plus is good are the ones who get pulled over. Relax and enjoy the scenery.
