A lot doesn’t get said. Outside of Phoenix it can be cheap to live here. I don’t know of anywhere my Real Estate Taxes could be lower. In most cases Social Securityis not taxed. As a military retiree that means that almost none of my income is taxable. The weather is great in Cochise County and Fort Huachuca provides whatever the Army still provides.

When I first moved here the VA Clinic was in the Army Hospital. For me that was one stop shopping. All of that is gone now but for retirees still a great place

Good news! I hope everyone considering moving here reads it! What we need is for a million or 2 people to move out of AZ due to our precarious water situation.

Unless you’re out in a VERY rural area, there’s no respite from the high costs of real estate. Tucson is seeing real estate shoot way back up like it was in the mid 2000’s. Rents are holding the line better than they are in Phoenix, but I don’t know for how much longer.

I’m seeing some serious price creep down here in Cochise County too. Rumor has it that people are paying significant bucks over asking price. I can’t figure out what’s driving these spikes, but I’m guessing that it’s just another bubble that’ll have another bad ending.

I get a kick out of people who like to tout the low taxes, like in Nevada, seemingly without realizing that low taxes is just another magnet for people to move into their state, which they don't like. I don't live in one of those low-tax states, but I've never really considered the tax rates or politics when it comes to choosing where I live, and/or where I am now retired.

The only constant pretty much everywhere is change...

What's that got to do with Goldwater and Trump being so very different? But, yes.

These stupid listicles are almost always tilted to draw in clicks, not for any measure of accuracy.

I dont pay attention to any of them.

Yes, Minnesota at #2, lol. I laughed at the crime and "opportunity" categories. Crime is low only if you dont live in the twin cities, which is where they list all the opportunities to be. The twin cities are governed by complete idiots and it shows. QOL now is in a decline for sure.

I grew up in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and eventually escaped to northern AZ.

I have also lived in Ventura CA, Norfolk VA, Virginia Beach VA, Wash DC, Frederick MD, and Colorado Springs CO.

Outskirts of Frederick is the only place I would consider returning to, despite MD's blue nature.

But I'm quite happy here in Preskitt.

I have heard that Sierra Vista has the best air quality in the nation so that's an option.

Where have you heard that? I'm in SV a lot (I live in the San Pedro Valley) and the air quality has been pretty bad. The wind is pretty brutal down here too so all that dirt gets into everything. Including your respiratory system

"Where have you heard that?" People "hear" all kinds of stuff, most of it wrong but assume it's a accurate.

All it takes is some research and instead of hearing some rumor you're looking at data. Air Quality Index

Real time AZ air quality readings

I'm not sure what CD will allow as links but just do searches on SV air quality and you should be able to find links to this data. This is based on supposedly objective data rather than someone's opinion.

I was aware that SV is windy but that does blow away the vehicle pollution which is a very good thing. I've only been to SV twice and didn't stay long enough to get much of an impression.

Because my wife has asthma, air quality is very important to where we live and it really should be a big issue for anyone interested in long term health. From your experience living in the area, how many days per year does SV have dust storms?
