What kind of vehicle was the plate on? My truck is up there in Minnesota right now. It is in Melrose, and my bro in law takes it to St Cloud all the time.

azbatman, Texas does have 7-digit plates. http://www.plateshack.com/y2k/Texas2/tx2009-3.jpg . Even so, Arizona is not the smallest state with 7-digit plates. That would be New Hampshire.
I think the new Texas plate looks good. The new background image is nice looking. I really don't like the 7 digits though. That just shows how big the population is.

As for the license plates. They do look good, despite the 7 digits they switched to in 2008. That really pisses me off. Texas doesn't even have 7 digit plates. Also, they are no longer stamped metal, they are printed.
I have three 6 digit Az license plates in my possession that came off of vehicles I used to own. Needless to say: I am keeping 'em for any future cars or trucks

License Plate Information
What was the vehicle you saw with the plates? Was it a big black dodge ram?

You have to realize also that Texas is larger (land-wise) than many countries, so they are bound to have a higher population and can easily support it. Texas needs 7 digits. Otherwise they'd end up like Florida, where their plates have so many different formats that it's basically like alphabet soup. I don't like the format they chose though...AB1-C234 as opposed to a more standard ABC-1234 like we have here. The design is excellent though. It could very well win ALPCA's plate of the year award, if it can beat Wyoming's new design.

Yeah those are neat. I kinda miss those old mustard yellow ones, if 4 no other reason than to have them on an old classic pickup truck.

California's population beats out Texas yet its license plates are ABC-1234 as well I believe.

California is 1ABC234. Same number of combinations. They started with 1AAA001 back in the early 80's and are now on about 6M. So you could argue that since California has almost 6x the population of Arizona, and it has taken them 30 years to go through 60% of their numbers, that we don't need 7 digits here.
