Does anyone live in Arizona and commute to Calif.? Since Az has a better tax situation would it be feasible? I am thinking maybe 4 days a week to Palm Springs. If I had a nice cruiser car it could work?

Why not just live in Palm Springs? The commute would cost more in gas than you taxes would be, plus you will get sick of driving 4 hours a day just to get to work!

Where in AZ would you live, if not Phoenix you can live in some smaller areas closer to the border.

California Taxes are LIVE OR WORK, so you would still owe California taxes.
You are talking about commuting across the Mojave Desert

Sounds like a not very fun way to live, and, since you would owe CA taxes anyway, why bother?

From what I found online, Palm Springs is a lot like Phoenix, in terms of cost of living and climate.

Well I guess my dream has burst. California taxes will get you everytime! I will need to think this over. Maybe living and working in a state other than California is the way to go.
Thanks for all the replies!

As someone who drives from CA to AZ a few times a year, i would highly recommend not doing it. If you want to work in Palm Springs, there are areas you can live out there that will be nice. If you like AZ's taxes ... work in AZ.

Living in AZ and working in CA cannot work unless one lives in Quartzite and works in Blythe, CA or something. Its still a 5 hour drive between Phoenix and Palm Springs. And its still about 370 miles between Phoenix and LA. And even between Yuma and San Diego its still at least 4 hours or so.

I live in AZ but work for a CA company -- but I telecommute. That's really the way to go, if you can swing it. Driving back and forth is crazy, if it's more than an hour one way then it's really not worth it.
