I'm wondering how the job market was in Arizona. I currently live in the Northern Virginia area and I want a life change and I've heard good things about Arizona.

I have an Associates of the Arts degree with a major in graphic design, so I'm thinking about doing something with that, but open to other careers.

Jobs are tight here, just as they are in most areas of the country. Look on line and find some prospects before you make the move. Graphic designers can usually work for themselves can't they?

The job market is TERRIBLE in AZ and the boom is over. According to even the local media in the Phoenix market, Arizona will be among the last states to see an economic turnaround--probably not til like 2015 or later. Most of the state's losses have occured in construction, hospitality-tourism and government. Most jobs in AZ are only minimum-wage and dont pay enough to make a living. Thats the truth. AZ is and has always been a minimum-wage state, even in 'good' times. Therefore, its no coincidence that Walmart is the largest employer in AZ.

I used to live in northern VA (Sterling) in 2004 and liked it. There are tons and tons more jobs there than in AZ. At least the Washington DC area has culture and things to do. Personally, I would stay there.

I moved from Phoenix to Arlington, VA last March. While I had a stable job in AZ, my new position offers a much greater salary and much more opportunity for promotion and increased wages. While I miss AZ tremendously, it is not for everyone. I would move back in a second if my wife would, but she is a city girl and hated Phoenix.

The job market was tough last year, and from everything I read, it remains a difficult place to find employment. If you can find a job, take an insightful look at what you want before moving. Phoenix is not for everyone. PM me if you want more specifics.

No jobs in AZ. Even the illegals are having a hard time finding work. Yet, everyone keeps moving here thinking they will find a job, thus increasing competition. Some end up begging for bus fare to go home.

The job market in Phoenix is among the worst in the country right now, with no end in sight. According to even the local media in the Phoenix market, AZ will be among the last states to see a recovery. Even the illegals are going home, due to lack of work. Too many people coming here is only making the competition worse, when there is already so many people looking for jobs who already live here. I just think people need to stay away because Arizona's economy CANNOT support newcomers. Too many people coming too quickly is part of the reason we are in this mess. It has killed the quality of life.

You're right. I heard that AZ won't recover until they get rid of all the foreclosures, which will be a really long time.
