Ok, I am Canadian (living here) so bear with me and my questions. I think I have found a car I am going to buy from a private seller, providing it checks out ok at the dealership. The seller said she would bring the car to me (I've seen it at her place, an hour away).

When I give her the money (or bank draft) does she just give me the title which she signs over, and the registration? She said she keeps her plate. Is that right?

Does that mean I can put my plate, from my other car, on it until I get to the DMV? if not, what do I do?

How long do I have to get to the DMV?

Is there a website to go to calculate how much the plate registration will be for that car?

Are there any other fees I need to be aware of?

Thanks for all this.

Thank you LV Drunk, that was very helpful, the only thing I couldn't find easily was a schedule for how much I would par for the tags.

You can also find out what the seller paid last year, and figure it will be somewhat less-the formula in the link above will help you figure how much less.

Thanks for the tips, I went into the DMV in Cottonwood last week to get something fixed on the title for my current car (they put the kilometers down for milage....a HUGE difference)!

When I aksed there about the new plates fee I got little help, the woman working there told me that I had to bring in a 'SRP when new' amount. I find this very hard to believe. If I have to bring in a SRP for the vehicle when it was new, how would they know I'm giving them the right one? It sounds way to weird .
