Hey all Arizonans that were born and raised here. Anyone remember growing up going to school in Arizona, half the class spoke some Spanish, half the class knew some English, and we all played together at recess and you never heard that your friends at school were responsible for all the state's problems or they were "aliens". We were all Southwesterners and Arizonans and it was a given that living in AZ meant American, Mexican, and Native American, and Black culture was our culture?

Remember about 20 or 15 years back when thousands of people from California and the Midwest started moving here. They kept coming and kept coming, and they found jobs and cheap real estate. And they brought their idea of what everyday America should be and it didn't mesh with here.

Ever been to a Diamonbacks game when the Cubs or Dodgers are in town ?

I think most sports fans would know what it means to be outnumbered in your own stadium.

We've been flooded with immigrants, from north of the border. Midwesterners or people from Back East unfamiliar and distrustful of Mexicans. Californians that left to start over in a place where they could avoid the Mexican cultural dominance they left in SoCal.

Arizonans, Mexican culture is a part of who we are, even if you're white. It's in the names of places where so many of us live, it's in our Arizona food, it's in some of our best neighborhoods, Sunnyslope, S.Phoenix, Guadalupe, it's in all of our neighborhoods.

This isn't even up for discussion with the people I grew up with on the North side. It's Phoenix.

If we're gonna build a wall, build it across I-10 on the state line and I-40, keep out Californians and people from back East.

This is the Southwest. This is the Sonoran Desert. Bienvenidos gueros. Arizona, Love it or Leave it.

So basically what you are saying is that Mexicans are Americans, and Californians, mid-westerners and easterners aren't?

The odds are much greater that Sonora, etc. will become part of the USA and, substituting 'American' for 'Mexican' in your treatise would be more accurate.

BTW: I am from back east-----------with NO desire to ever see that section of the country again.

The Coyotes changed their uniforms to red because detroit fans outnumbered Coyote Fans.
Yes they come here and sit in their retirement communities refusing to help the schools and giving us rubes like Arpaio and JD Abramoff.

That's a tad harsh, isn't it? I'm an Arizona native but I've never thought that people shouldn't move here from other states. I don't even care if they come from Mexico, as long they do it legally. I do think that some folks who move here may have some preconceived notions. Not just about illegal immigration but many things. The ONLY border I want closed is the southern one and ONLY to illegals. If everyone, except for people born and raised here, left we'd be a very empty state. But then, maybe, that's what some people would like.

I went to a Diamondbacks/Cubs spring training game, and I saw an overwhelming number of Cubs fans.

I support AZ sports - The Cardinals got me into football.

And I think when people move somewhere, they should adapt some of their lifestyle to the place they are living in. They shouldn't try to completely ignore it.

I am from California. I grew up watching the Rams, Raiders, Angels and Dodgers. Upon moving to Phoenix in 04, my loyalty switched to the Cards and the Diamondbacks. They are my teams, I enjoy going to their games and am proud to support them in their good seasons and their bad.

I agree that Mexican culture is a part of who we are. My sister is a teacher and her Mexican students are an integral part of her elementary classroom dynamics. In third grade, they are not viewed as a culture or ethnicity as much as a friend or classmate. I think a lot of the problem stems from illegal immigration which I strongly oppose. You don't have to hail from California or the east to recognize the problems that come with uncontrolled illegal immigration and the damage it does to any society including increased crime, drug running, human smuggling, kidnappings, etc.

I love the Mexican culture...I love Hispanics..(my wife is one, and my daughters are of course Hispanic too)...I am the only white person in the house...and the only male...even my dog is female and brown. So I am a minority.
Seriously there is nothing like Mexican food, culture and people....I love Mexico...plan to go there later this year for a visit.

But illegal immigration, human and drug smuggling, has become a bane to our society and MUST be controlled. There are ways I believe to do it that do not violate human rights, ...and it has to be done or the damage to the USA will be irreparable.
