Default moving to hot springs?

My grandmother grew up in hot springs and my fiance and I were thinking about moving into her old home and living in Hot springs. We're from New York - he's a Chef and I'm a programmer.

I don't know where to look for jobs. Can anyone recommend a web site or local place for finding job postings?

And this may seem a little silly but do people with tattoos on their arms have a hard time fitting in in Arkansas? We live in NYC and it's pretty normal here, but I dunno how that might be viewed by southern culture.

Look at the Sentinel Record, its Hot Springs newspaper and its online. You can probably start drumming up some jobes there. Hot Springs is no metro area though, so you may be taking a HUGE pay cut just to move here, if you can find a job in your feild. Good luck! As far as the tats go, I am sure it wouldn't be a "big" issue.

Oh, You may have some that response to your tat's, but Arkansas is not differant than any other southern state, slowly adapting to moral's of it's citizens over time. My wife, kids, and kids wives ... all have tat's that show ... and do not get any response in HS. My son's and wives live in HS, and it's not been a problem.

On the job front, like it was mentioned, expect a HUGH pay cut on computer based jobs in state in general. Expect very tight market for programming in HS, if you can even find a job in that field. I expect you will have to look to Little Rock or it's burbs for something in that field but the travel from HS to Little Rock isn't that bad. On the Chef side, that will be easier to find jobs, but nothing near top dollar as in NYC. It's all a numbers game on the jobs, if for nothing other than the whole population of the state between 1/2 and 1/3 of NYC (general). Est take off US 2006 Census - AR State - 2,810,872 and NYC - 8,214,426. Population of HS is around 37K of that 2.8M. Many of the jobs get tied up by local families, with kids waiting in line to take over anything that opens up. Of course if you can program online, it's a wonderful place to live cost wise, just make sure you can get high speed access (Cable most likely as DSL is spotty in HS).

One thing not mentioned/listed concerns culture, as you will find the pace in south in general, to be a snail's pace compared to most of the east coast. Not that this is a bad thing, just that Arkansas ... aka Hot Springs ... lives/works/plays at a much slower pace.
