I have not been to Beirut Lebanon, but I will mention my impressions about it based on what I know about that place.
Lebanon seems like one of the most decent places in the Middle East region in many ways. It is definitely not nearly as bad as Iraq, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Libya etc.
Lebanon seems like one of the least conservative countries in that region.
Also, Lebanon has the most religiously diverse society in the Middle East and is 40% Christian/60% Muslim, which is an interesting mix. The Muslim element it has is probably a moderate non-extremist version of it.
In many ways, Lebanon reminds me of Morocco and they seem to have plenty of similarities.
The city of Beirut in Lebanon seems similar to the city of Tel Aviv in Israel, despite the Israel/Lebanon conflict/tension.
Curious how the political situation seems during these times...I haven't been watching the news for it, but it seems to at least be out of the news as of recently.
Unfortunately, seems like another bad time to visit BEIRUT. The Embassy bombing earlier this month.
I'm going to the region in early 2014...and would have loved to get a visit to Beirut in there.
