Many people in the US and Canadians and Australians seem to do. I don't know about others in the western world.
Some people say that South-East Asians look like East Asians and have close enough cultural ties enough to be put in the same group but others think not. There are other influences in South-East Asia that are not East Asian-related, such as Spanish in the Philippines from colonial influence, Islam in South-East Asia in religion in places like Indonesia and Malaysia, plus ancient India influenced its civilizations.
Do you think the reason most lump SE Asians with E Asians is due to physical appearance or culture or both and do you think they should be treated distinctively enough as another category of people in Asia (Like South Asians, West Asians are their own categories etc.) or equally treated as a region between South and East Asia?
Category/region for what? In the end it's just people making more categories. Asia is diverse, and countries WITHIN South-East Asia vary so much. Thailand and Indonesia are so different. Plus Vietnam is more East Asian culturally. Chinese culture has influenced a lot of SEA and there is a large diaspora there. I think 'East Asia' and 'South-East Asia' are just geographical things, there's no real cultural thing that unites NEA and SEA. They're united by the people looking similar (even Indonesians are obviously a lot closer to Chinese than Indians), Buddhism, except in Indonesia and Malaysia with Islam, rice.etc.
I would say that SEA and EA are more of a united thing, and are more similar to each other than the rest of Asia. They could be seen as the 'Far East'. SEA is more for geographical reference. 'East Asia' or the 'Far East' can refer to anywhere from Jakarta to Vladivostok really.
Yes, I think there is nothing really that makes a Siberian tribesman be culturally any more similar to a Catholic Filipino or East Timorese, compared to any other Asians, that you would unite them together as the Far Eastern group of people.
I think really far North East Asians, say Mongolian herders in the cold windswept plains and really far South East Asians, say Balinese Hindus (even if they look more similar to each other than to Asians further west, like Indians) are no more similar to each other culturally than either would be to any other Asians to place them in a common category.
Plus, I've said this before I believe in some other thread, but Native Americans from Canada to Patagonia, and Polynesians also look like East/SE Asians but you never see people place Native New Worlders + Far East Old Worlders as a single block, whether it based on "looks" or culture.

Well Asia is diverse, with different religions, language families, phenotypes.etc. I'd say moreso than Europe, for sure. They did a genetic distance study (take it with a grain of salt) where they said that Koreans and Cambodians were genetically a similar distance as Finns and Italians. So genetically maybe the 'Far East' is similar to Europe?
There are still things that unite a lot of East Asians. Like I said, Buddhism is something that is common from Mongolia to Thailand to China to Japan.

Indonesian is a country with a large Muslim followers but more moderate and can accept all foreign influence. I would say our country's Muslims Population with a very diverse cultural mix with many influence foreign countries, especially India, china, dutch,arabic (more to Religion)

Based on the charts, European Whites and caucasoid groups like Indian Caucasoid are even closer to each other than between East and Southeast Asians. If we lump East and S.East Asians together then we might as well lump Indians and Whites together.
Exception applies to SE Asians with significant Chinese ancestry of course.
^You are making the assumption that the primary difference between human societies is genetic rather than cultural.
Culture is shaped by the collective genes of a group to a certain extent. Not sure if any parts of Southeast Asia share any significant similarities with any East Asian culture except for Vietnam. You even see it in other threads sometimes - how Thais and SEAsians are less nerdy, more friendly, etc etc.
