Playing devil's advocate. What's the difference between putting "In God We Trust" and having "In Flying Spaghetti Monster We Trust" on our currency?

Anyone who does not want their bills because they have "in god we trust" on them, well, get rid of them. Why not send them all to me instead? I don't care what is on them......
I would prefer it NOT be on there but when I go to buy groceries, does it really matter as long as they arre worth the ...um...paper on which they are printed?

This one has already been through the courts. The Federal ruling was that "In God We Trust" is simply a motto, a slogan, and as such does not constitute a government endorsement of religion. Since that makes no sense at all, I think we are safe in assuming that the actual ruling of the court was...."This is such a trivial matter and we would catch so much crap if we bounced the motto, we're just gonna punt on this one and issue any old thing which gets rid of this with the least amount of controversy."

I suspect that if it was tried again, the courts would react the same way...."The old silly ruling is affirmed."

It does promote a religion. It supports monotheism and excludes all others.

It reflects the view of enough people to get it turned into a national slogan in the 1950s. To this day, the reality is that most people self-identify as theists, and most of them are monotheists. So? The tide is turning away from that and eventually the shoe will be on the other foot. I will not waste time gloating about it either. It's not us vs them, who's king of the mountain. At least I hope it's not that way for most people ... I hope that most of us are not children. I hope we can just get on with making it a better world for all.
