Thanks, I recalled 'North...but the rest on the name escaped me. There was also an ex- Fundy who had a thread apologizing for how he acted when fundy and we said there was nothing to apologize for and he said there was and we said he didn't need to. But by golly if he wanted to apologize he was damn' well going to, and it got quite heated.

Lol ... yes I think we're maybe thinking of the same guy. IIRC he stated he was suffering from Asperger's which both explains the rigid thinking around even how the act of apologizing should go down, and speaks to his courage and determination in breaking free from the strictures of fundamentalism.

I also recall some escalating marital strife over his decision and hope that it turned out okay and that we hear from him again.

Indeed. I have sometimes thought of him....(Thinks...I wonder how Shirina is?) and would like any former an new atheists, irreligionists, sortagod agnostics and the like goddless bastards to let us hear from them. I do miss Boxcar.

And I am in admiration of anyone who breaks free of religion. It can't be easy. I mean reasoning doubt by doubt to reject one claim after another. This is like cutting bits off yourself and it must be so tempting to just dive back under the security blanket.

This is assuming, of course, that the supernatural even exists and is not something purely imaginary.

When most of the world's religions were invented, nobody knew anything about dark matter, dark energy, subatomic particles, gravitational singularities and such. It makes me wonder whether practically everything that ancient people might have considered to be supernatural and unseen is finally within the grasp of scientific explanability today.
