If you feel like you belong somewhere, isn't it because you feel equal? Your voice is heard and respected? When I talk about equality, I don't mean resources. I mean language and being able to communicate.
Ah, OK. otherwise, humans are not equal. Any attempt to equality is always a disaster.

I would agree in the sense that there are people who can identify, gather, and utilize natural resources to their benefit better than others.
But I am referring to comparative and superlative terms as well as labels being used to keep people quiet. Nobody should stay quiet when this language is used. That is how racism is promoted.
And, she provided the answers? She alone? Did it work?
Do you even think about what you write?
I have no idea why she was dragged into this discussion.

Unless somebody is trying to drag her political views into this discussion, I fail to see why Ayn Rand is even being discussed. Yes, she was a nutcase extremist.

A poster repeatedly asked for the names of non-new atheists that had contributed something in the past.
Friedrich Nietzsche and Ayn Rand were mentioned. For obvious reasons Rand is not a well liked atheist philosopher.

Uh, YOU were the first person to mention her in this thread. Why did you do that? What does her economic view have to do with atheism?

I was wondering that, too (pardon my knee-jerk reaction... ). Turns out, she was mentioned, because she was an atheist, and had a few things to say, as such. Who knew?

As I said a poster repeatedly asked for the names of old fashion atheists that had contributed in the past. Rand has written novels and is also a philosopher. I also mentioned Friedrich Nietzsche who is apparently much better accepted.
I think an argument that has been made is that our norms were actually brought about by religion, specifically, Christianity. So even if somebody declares to be an atheist, the norms such as marriage between a man and a woman comes from a religious source. So I think before religious people hand themselves over to the state, they want to make sure their religious norms stay in place. They want to know are we going to allow multiple wives, gay marriage, or no marriage by having a secular government. (Notice how it's never multiple husbands.)
Human norms are human norms. The places with the least violence, score highest in the happy index, cover their people with universal healthcare as a right, also are the countries where religion plays a very small role. The more secular, the better for the citizens involved.
Who cares who sleeps with whom, who they marry, and frankly, multiple marry, IF all are consenting adults. It's nobody else's business, and it truly doesn't affect society. Religious norms have always been regressive, and were there to subjugate at least parts of the population.
I, as an atheist, sure as heck object if you want me to close my store on Sunday because it is a magical day of some kind to you.
I, as an atheist, sure as heck object that you don't want my niece to marry her girl friend.
I, as an atheist, sure as heck object if you don't want my granddaughter to have an abortion if she chooses to have one.
I, as an atheist, sure as heck loudly object that your place of where you spend time in adulation to some magical entity, hold up my progress on the road because you have hired the local police to direct traffic OUT of that place. Have to wait? Good. Reflect on the sermon and see if it really make sense. You don't have to get to the nearest Cracker Barrel that fast... it'll still be there in an hour, you know.
I, as an atheist, sure as heck object if you want to mutter your magical incantations at public, taxpayer, meetings.
I, as an atheist object to this and may other things of your "religious norms".
If you love religious norms, may I suggest moving to either Saudi Arabia or the Vatican.
