I saw where her husband is in the running for police chief in Clayton County. Does anybody else think that's kinda ... weird? And a potential ethics issue for her (reporting on news out of Clayton)?

It does seem like a conflict of interests. But then again, TV news anchors are only journalists in the loosest terms, no matter what they call themselves, so the actual impact it would have might be negligible. Still, I agree - it's unethical. Is she thinking of retiring, maybe?

I can't imagine WSB-TV without Monica Pearson and her wacky hair changes! (I'm still calling her Monica Kaufman out of habit...)

But, yeah, I agree. Total conflict of interests.

Naw, it's no conflict of interest. Monica is an institution here, turning down network positions over the years to remain local. I have met her IRL a couple of times, and she is a true gem. She has been a selfless contributor to several great causes for many years.

Who cares what her new husband does for a living, she has definately paid her dues around here. If he lands the job, I wouldn't be surprised if she recused herself from covering him.

Nope, no conflict of interest.

Alan Greenspan was the fed chairman and married to a reporter. Many others as well. If she had a business with the police dept as a client I would see that as a conflict but being married to him and her being a newscaster, no conflict imo.

AJC blog entry says she's planning to retire in 2012, so moot point, anyway, I suppose.

Well it had to happen sooner or later. I know a lot of people love Monica, but Atlanta has outgrown her. She and John Pruitt really are WAY to folksy for being the No. 1 rated newscast in the 8th largest TV market in the country. I have a hard time watching WSB for the "bleeds it leads" mentality anyway.

Ditto. I don't like how WSBTV and other news channels like it have a tendency to report on stories and then forget all about them. Sometimes a person wants to have a little followup every now & then.
