Well, this "homer" considers that to be your opinion, and I absolutely disagree.

The Yacht Club and The Porter can be, and are a lot of fun - in MY opinion. Of course, neither place puts up with any attitude at all, so perhaps that's why you write off the area.

Some of those people that look like normal preppy people walking around in those areas might be like me. I use to have all the facial piercings and blue spiked hair etc etc. (I've been hanging around the area since about 1991 and on). I'm just older and lazier now and I'm out of that phase of my life. I'm covered with tattoos, but none that you can visibly see as I don't have any on the lower parts of my arms nor my neck. My point is is that the people you see walking around that look "preppy" in those area that you think might be from some outer suburb, might just be the people that have been there all along.

This is a good point.

Back in the day I went through all of the phases from rasta to punk to rasta again to hippy to rockabilly and dressed the part (I never had any piercings or tatoos though )

Now-a-days I'm in my thirties and married with a mortgage, receding hairline and a white collar job. If I still dressed like that I would look ridiculous. That doesn't mean I don't have an Alt mindset or still love to hang out in Little 5. A lot of people are just like that.

So you're suggesting only people your age go out...

I prefer to park where there are more people around, a more open area. It's a street smart thing. If more people parked down there I would probably be more comfortable. Of course, I'm usually hauling two children around with me and it takes a million years to get them buckled into carseats, etc. It would be fine if I was ever there on my own.

I thought about how cool (I don't know if there are currently any plans for the Moreland corridor) it would be if Glenwood and EAV were connected on both sides of Moreland with mixed use infill. Isn't it funny how places that used to seem pretty far away from each other seem so much closer as Atlanta continues to densify? With more infill connecting certain areas, intown Atlanta could be taken to the next level, as far as connectivity/walk-ability goes.

Not to beat a dead house, but someone posted a fascinating link on skyscraperpage regarding a study of Moreland Avenue, which shows plans for developments that link the neighborhoods. This indirectly applies to my earlier postings regarding L5P and Edgewood Retail district connectivity.

L5P is lame nowadays anyway. That article treats it like it's some sort of national treasure when it's nothing but a bunch of headshops, tattoo parlors, and dive bars. Like I said, there are more people in L5P on a daily basis then there ever has been.
Yes, dive bars that give you an alternative to a Chili's or some run of the mill sports bar (Derby, Sidelines, Jocks and Jills, just to name but a few). Heaven forbid.

Son of a gun, I miss Austin. Please, do us a favor and stay out of L5P, it's not for you.

Ok hipster, keep spouting the party line. Anything non-chain, no matter how overhyped or mediocre it is, is automatically better than anything any of those lame suburbanites settle for, right?

This is the type of attitude that totally kills the place for me. Sure, go hang out with your smacked out trustafarian buddies in front of American Apparel or any of the other "chain" stores in L5P. Come back when you get your nose out of the stratosphere.
