Atlanta vs. Charlotte? (Buckhead: crime, theatre, quality of life)

Which city is better for quality of life, single 40 somethings, arts, theatre, culture, restaurants? I'm comparing the two for a possible move and hear that they are similar...but the traffic in Atlanta is a dealbreaker for most people. How does crime compare? If you've lived in both cities, which would you prefer and why?

What sort of setting are you planning on living in and where are you planning on working?

The amount traffic and crime in Atlanta will impact you varies hugely based on those answers. Atlanta's traffic is mainly a problem on interstates headed into/out of downtown during rush hour, as well as the northern portion of I-285. In addition, major arterial streets in the suburbs on the northside can become extremely congested in the afternoon.

Crime is typically worse in the city, but in places you're likely to live it can certainly be managed to become more or less a non-issue. Midtown and Buckhead are both pretty safe (Buckhead in paricular), and rents aren't out of control depending on your standards. The most likely crime you'll encounter is having your iPod stolen from your parked car; don't leave anything laying on the seat.
