Speaking of Farming? Is there still farming going on in Forsyth County? If it still exists.. where are the farming areas located?

My aunt, lifelong native of Gwinnett could give you a complete history of the area. It was nothing to brag about I know that. My grandparents lived 'on a dirt road near the creek' on a farm. Now Peachtree Corners.

Technically the city you reside in is Suwanee.
Technically you don't reside in a city, you reside in an unincorporated part of the county. They have to be called something for mailing purposes, your alternatives are Cumming and Duluth. Since they are closer to Suwanee they are called Suwanee.

The exception to this is St. Marlo in 30097. Maybe there is some kind of deal made that ritzy golf communities have to be in 30097 since it also has Sugarloaf,St. Ives and Atlanta Athletic.

I know a guy who owned a huge chunk of land around what is now Northview High School. He paid $1200 for the land and sold it for 7 figures. He never thought in his wildest dreams that North Fulton would become so developed, or that "all those Yankees movin' in" would make him a millionaire. I love talking to the "old timers" and learning about the history of this area.

I suspect the chicken coop owners in Forsyth county made similar deals. I don't know where I was--driving around Buford Dam one day and couldn't believe the beautiful new schools that had been built. For years there was one small and old school in the area. Disney might have waved a magic wand and created a magic kingdom.

Of course I know it's not a city.

But "South Forsyth" is the location-identifier that most people use when asked where they live. None of my friends who live with a Suwanee mailing address in South Forsyth tell people they live in Suwanee. They say "South Forsyth" simply because it's a more accurate identifier geographically. It lets people know they live west of the river. It conveys more accurately what their public schools are. Suwanee residents in South Forsyth do not go to the grocery store in the city of Suwanee. Their day to day is in South Forsyth.

I know others have clarified, but what city is listed as your address depends on where the post office that serves you is located. The post office that serves the parts of unincorporated South Forsyth with a Suwanee address is located across the river in Gwinnett County, i.e. in the city of Suwanee.

Sometimes unincorporated areas still get to go by the name of the area, but again, that is rare and is up to the post office. Two examples--Dunwoody, before it became a city, still had a Dunwoody address. Tucker, which is still not a city, has a Tucker address. This is because the post office that serves these areas is not a branch of one located in an incorporated city.

The system has been a source of controversy for some communities, especially if the address of the area you live in is associated with a city that has a bad reputation. Peachtree Corners residents are very frustrated that they have to list their address as "Norcross." It is one of the reasons they are seeking cityhood--having a Peachtree Corners address, instead of Norcorss, would raise property values. Norcross just puts a bad taste in people's mouths.

Sandy Springs is also taking up an initiative called "Proud to be a Sandy Springer," which encourages businesses and residents to use Sandy Springs instead of Atlanta.

I know the system can be very confusing, though. It leads people to believe that Tucker is an actual city, that Peachtree Corners is in Norcross, that Duluth is in Fulton County, and that Johns Creek doesn't exist.

I have two more questions that i am curious about?

1.It is possible that an incorporated Suwanee be in both counties: S. Forsyth and Gwinnett or this impossible?

2. Is it possible that a new city gets incorporated to claim the land that is north of McGinnis Ferry which is now has an address of "Suwanee"? Similar to how JC incorporated the best parts of Duluth, Suwanee, and Alpharetta.

Suwanee is unlikely to annex any areas in Forsyth, and I would guess that south Forsyth is unlikely to incorporate. The vast majority of Forsyth is unincorporated.

1. Georgia law requires a city who wants to expand into another county to get permission from that county's largest city. Since Cumming is the only city, they would have to get permission from them.

2. Of course its possible, because its not part of any city. Neither was Johns Creek--it was just unincorporated Fulton County. Those people had Alpahretta/Duluth/Suwanee addresses, but they were not actually within the city boundaries of any of them.
