Default Looking to move away north of the city

Hey all,

I am recently married and just moved down to the Atlanta area. I work in Smryna and my husband works in Marietta. We currently live in an apartment but are looking at getting a house. Our price range is ~$250k. I am from a small town in Michigan and we are looking to move north of the city off of 75 or 575. We're thinking Canton-type of distance would be as far as we'd go.

What would be a good small town for us to move to?

Also the other obvious stuff is important, like a good school district for our future children. Are main motivation to move out fo the city is to get away from the fast-paced life of the city.

Thanks for your help =)

That's a little bit too far for us to drive. Also we would be okay with a bigger small town. The town I grew up in was around 30,000. But I lived in the outskirts of the town.

Look in Cherokee Cty, you will find good schools, You are going to need to get somewhat off the Interstates to find the 'small town' feel. With in 10-15 miles of the interstates South of Canton & Catersville. You are going to find built out Sub-Divisions. Not a real small town feel. Georgia does not have 'alot' of towns, as the north does, Most area out side ex-urban area you are going to find 1 'town' in the county, and lots of undevoped area (farm land) around it with houses scattered around. As atlanta grow into the exurban area. SubDivison grow in that farm land.

flyonpa is right - anything south of about Canton is not going to give you much of a small-town feel. Woodstock, Towne Lake, Acworth, Kennesaw, Alpharetta, Roswell -- all are major victims of suburban sprawl.

Canton is made up of of smaller communities that might work for you. Check out Hickory Flat, Buffington and Birmingham. The southern part of Ball Ground overlaps Canton in the Macedonia, Free Home, and Lathemtown areas. You can definitely find a nice home here in your price range, it's really pretty (rolling hills and mountain views) and it's significantly less busy than where you are now. I've lived in this area for 10+ years and I'm happy to answer any questions.
