My husband is being relocated to East Point and I would like to get some advice as to where to live. Here's the specifics:

Budget: Up to $250,000
House: Would like neighbors, yet privacy.
Commute: To East Point. Husband would like to keep commute to +/- 35 minutes.
Children: None
Lifestyle: Would like a rural or suburban lifestyle with low crime rate.
Hobbies: My husband would like to join a golf club. I have 2 Icelandic horses and would like to board them at a farm in Rutledge. If this distance is out of the question, I would appreciate any ideas of where to board within 20-30 minutes of proposed house location.
Public Transit: Easy access not important
Demographics of Desired Neighborhood: White, professionals

Thanks so much for any replies!

If it were me, I would look out around douglasville/powder springs/hiram and buy some property. You can get a decent house and 5-10 acres for less than 200k. Then you can board your horses at your house.

The commute would probably be a little more than 35 minutes, but I think it would be worth it.

Default Re: Job Relocation to East Point

Thanks for the reply. I should add that I don't want to buy horse property because (1) I don't want to have to do all the logistics of buying/stacking hay, manure removal, fixing fencing, etc. and, (2) my husband's company will not buy out any type of farm property if we relocate (which seems to happen every 5-10 years).

I don't see your requirements being met as described. A good buyers agent can help you find something that meets most of them.

We lived in Atlanta about 10 years and I couldn't wait to leave mostly due to traffic, congestion, and commuting. Now I live 2 miles from work and couldn't be happier. Aaaah, quality of life yes...

Check out the Senoia or Newnan area. About 35/40 mins, several horse farms, low crime.

I don't think East Point would be a good fit. If my memory is correct, 75% of East Point is African American and 13% is Latino.
I would suggest looking in other areas as well.

I second Newnan. I think you'd like it out there.

Any suggestions on suburban/rural areas to live EAST or SOUTHEAST of Atlanta...hubby will commute to East Point, but I want to be able to commute to Rutledge (way east of Atlanta along I-20). Thanks for the responses...it's greatly appreciated!
