I'm about to move to the Buckhead area (off Roswell Rd., about a mile north of the Roswell Rd/Peachtree Rd split). I work in Duluth, right off of the Boggs Rd exit from I-85. Any ideas on the best way to get to/from work? My main concern is what road(s) to take from home to get to I-85 in the first place. I'm under the impression that I-85 itself won't be so bad because of the reverse commute.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Brandon

Not the longest commute I have ever seen, but it will be a drive.

You don't have very many good options. You can either take GA400 north to 285, or make your way to the Sydney Marcus/Buford Hwy/Lenox Rd GA400->85N exit-and-interchange.

Either way, you will have to deal with some surface street traffic before you even make it to 85N. Not sure how bad it will be once school starts

Or you could just go north up Roswell road and hit 285E to 85N. That will be the worst part. I occassionally take I 85N from Druid Hills up to Duluth and its really not that bad once you get OTP. Also get a Peach Pass since there are few cars in the express lane most of the time.

I hate to say it, but this looks like a really rough commute because if you deal with 400, 285, and 85, you have three opportunities to get hung up.

The good news is you have lots of options depending on what is going on.

I think you'll find that Wieuca is your savior. You can take it over to Peachtree and ride Peachtree Industrial up to 285 and just get on it for a second and then pick up 85. Or you can take it over to Buford Highway and either loop onto 85 at the 285 junction, or take it up even further into Duluth and cross over at one of many places like Indian Trail, Pleasant Hill, Sugarloaf, etc. Also, you can take Wieuca all the way until it turns into Roxboro and N. Druid Hills over to 85 and then shoot straight up.

Depending on where you are, it may make more sense to use Windsor Parkway to get over.

I think if you stick to 85, the reverse commute idea will pay off, but when you start dealing with I-285 interchanges, things can get messed up in either direction.

Of course, try out that route first, but you do have options if it turns out to be a disaster.

Your biggest issue will be getting in and out of buckhead. Mornings may not be horrible but 400 south itp during rush hour is brutal. You should be able to take the interstate in the mornings but find a lot of alternates for your ride home.
