I wonder if SPSU will get a team, so there can be a rivalry up I-75. KSU's stadium is attractive, from what I saw during Atlanta Beat games.

I think it would be awesome if KSU, GA Southern and GSU all competed in the Sun Belt or another conference. Think of the money it would bring in.

What money would that bring in?

Football is a big money maker for universities. GA Southern and KSU's students voted for a football team. It wasn't imposed on them by force. Many GSU students are disgruntled that they have to pay the "athletic fee" when few ever show up to games.

If 75% of the school population is willing to pay $100 more for football, then I'm sure they're willing to go to games. Maybe a TV deal or a bigger conference offering would be insight.

I'm sure Vince Dooley's dealing with KSU's program will grip the media by the nickers.

Football is at some schools, but at others, it does little.

The momentum for GSU, that was capture in a SI article, has fizzled and literally, 3-4,000 people go to home games. Every school wants to be the next USF which experienced a quick ascent, but very few of them achieve success even close to this. What conference would they join? Sun Belt or C-USA would be the best case scenario after years of competition. Even then, they would be a punching bag for years further deflating the enthusiasm. Hell, GSU wants to do FBS, but they got dominated in FCS on a routine basis. The real college football money is in media deals, and there is little money in a Sun Belt or C-USA affiliation.

Yup. GSU football was exciting the first year...now I never go to the games anymore...plus I heard their record sucked this season lol.

Hopefully in 10 years, they are decent.

Well that's exactly my point. Everybody DOES want to become the next USF. That's precisely what GSU, KSU and GA Southern aim for. Georgia State had a great coach starting the program. I'm not sure what happened. Every year they've gotten worse.

But, I'd argue that it's because of GSU's demographics that the football involvement has fizzled. It's still a commuter campus for one, few students live on campus. Financial aid is a thing of concern to the majority of Georgia State's students(around 45% receive Pell as opposed to 15 or 16 at UGA or GT)..many more are part time. The tailgating scene just isn't there. I simply think it was a poor call.

In the case of KSU and GA Southern...you've got to start somewhere don't you?

And actually, the case KSU makes for football is more about branding and name recognition rather than immediate money.
