I'm 28, single and thinking about applying to a couple of job postings located in the northern suburbs. I've read some good things about the area but I imagine that like most suburbs, they are more family oriented. I guess that's not necessarily a problem but then again, I don't want to be bored out of my mind. I do like outdoor activities and it looks like there are several options for that kind of stuff but I'd prefer to live near at least some people my own age.

Are there many younger single people (20s/early 30s) living around Alpharetta, Duluth, Lawrenceville, etc.?

Younger single people tend to live closer to 285. The areas you mention are more for the married with kids. Sure, there are singles in those areas, but overall, younger singles tend to live closer in to 285. I think Sandy Springs or Norcross might be better options for someone like you. More what matters, however, is being relatively close to your job after you find one.

There are groups that appeal to young singles, through Meetup and such. There are also biking groups, hiking groups, etc.
If you play tennis or golf, like-minded singles aren't hard to find.

I think those areas would be very boring for a 28 year old Single. Traffic on interstate 85 is horrible during rush hour.

you can be happy in Sandy Springs and have reasonable (reverse) commute to Alpharetta

Sandy Springs/Perimeter or Vinings would be good. Alpharetta, Duluth, or Lawrenceville not so much.

I'm in my early 30's and live in Roswell; if it were more feasible, I'd move closer to the city in a heartbeat--at least to the Perimeter area, if not north Buckhead. I'd look into those areas as options if I were you.

Why are telling this man to live in the non-diverse areas of Atlanta? Those little towns in the northerrn suburbs are not the "real" Atlanta so its dishonest to steer him in one direction.!!!

Those areas are as "real" as any other area. The gazillion folks who live there are a testament to that.

If you live in a northern suburb and want to have an active dating life then you have to network like crazy because you will not encounter that many young, unattached singles living out there.

Dance classes, meet-up groups, volunteering, or even heading into the city regularly... you'll have to be a lot more proactive than if you lived in midtown or something.
