Most Tappen Z.

But My sister lives near Morristown, and we normally use that as a stopping point.
Have done NYThruway ?north/west? up to I84 and over, due to some major road issue on cross westchester (i287) But that's a big detour.

But have done (from easton) to US209 to I84 and cross @ Newburg few times.

and how tall are the escalators going up to the car rental train? is the height blocked or obscured in some way or is an elevator an option?
Yes each concourse has a elevator (more then one at some) that goes from the concourse to the PlaneTrain. Its usually around the corner or opposite from the escalators.

Airtran/SW also has some gates in d: http://www.atlanta-airport.com/docs/terminal/d.pdf

If you don't want to take the plane train there is a moving sidewalk / walkway that runs between the planetrain tubes.

The escalators up to the skytrain (rental car) is about 40? feet up. There is a elevator there.

Btw: Who told you, you can't use the elevator? If some one tries to stop you Just say you have a medical issue, and leave it at that. If they push it, tell them to call the airport police. Or you can call them from any of the courtesy phones in the concourse.

about 3 stories up. About the same height as Airport Marta North springs Marta Stations.

Its sort of open and air'ie. Not sure about escorts, but there will be others around going to RCC. There are two elevators that go up to the skytrain also.

sounds OK. when i exit the airport i don't want to take 85, i want to take 285, the one that loops around the western side of Atlanta and swings past the Marietta area and I would exit at either Roswell Rd (rte 19) or Ga 400. what would the entrance sign say is it 285 north or west? i know this is like a 35 mile ride south of Roswell but i want to stay on 285 because its a bypass i want to avoid that crazy letter "Y" where 75 and 85 meet, that's a crazy place

At the time of day you will be departing the airport I would take I285 around the west side of the city.

Rental Car Center Pkwy to Roswell, GA - Google Maps

IF you go down Camp Creek Parkway (Away from the Airport) you can get directly on to I285, but with all the lights (and volume at that time of day it will take you a while).

It better to hop on I85 South 1 exit I285
