Yes, I would say so. Not to mention the Nordstrom exclusive brands are much higher in quality than Macy's.

Macy's does have a great selection of bed linens.

FYI -- Rich's had a discount division called Richway that was very much like Target and in fact was eventually acquired by Target. All those big box target buildings around town with the rectangles on top were originally Richway stores. There was a CD thread about this recently:

https://www.city-data.com/forum/atlan...hlight=Richway

So the answer is NO! Not only was Rich's never like Walmart, Richway was never like Walmart!

Oh, for Gods sake...
Rich's and Davison's were always separate department store chains. Both were very high-end, and put a premium on customer service. Both were bought by Federated, and eventually absorbed into the Macy's chain. What a shame that many of you never experienced two really great department stores.

Some of us never experienced them because we live in a different part of the country.

A lot of stores are regional ya know.

Rich's equated to Macy's. And Davidson's too for that matter. I don't think Lazarus was ever in Atlanta. I don't consider Rich's or Macy's high-end. Probably a notch below places like Bloomingdale's and Saks Fifth Avenue.

Most Macy's stores are your typical, run-over-the-mill middle market department stores that care the same inventory as Dillard's or JC Penney. The company's flagship stores carry considerably more high-end inventory, though.

Richs and Davisons would have certainly held their own against any other high-end regional chain. They certainly would have run circles around the Macys of today. I'm pretty sure that many old-time Atlanans like myself would agree.
