The left lane was almost unusable as a travel lane anyways due to turners.
Just like Ponce. And now that Ponce has been reduced to 2 lanes, each way, center turn lane and buffered bike lanes, traffic flows easier.

I can't wait to see this come to Atlanta! Things like this change the way residents and visitors interact with the city. It lets more people see the city in a whole different way.

I used Bcycle in Denver and it was a nice amenity. They were well positioned around light rail so it could be used as a good last mile connection.

I think you have to call everything proposed in Atlanta or people will go nuts saying they didn't have any input.

I've never thought it that way... but you are absolutely right!

To be on the safe side it's best to talk in terms of a proposed preliminary possible rough draft, subject to public outreach, input and planning and further revisions and changes which may be necessitated through the community engagement process.

I have a question. Should bike lanes be on the interior lanes of the street? It may be a bad idea but considering the ice on the exterior lanes the other day, I couldn't help thinking part of me would still be under someones car if I had tried to cycle over it.

You know like those carriage bike things in Times Square that can pick you up from Macy's but then switch from the exterior curb to an interior lane. As long as we are getting going with the process, is that a better idea?

Just noticed the link to the preferred companies mentioned in the CL article. Called Social Bike or SoBi, the bikes don't have a docking station. Apparently you can use any standard bike rack to park it. Accroding to their website -
Quote:
Park the bicycle at a hub location or any bicycle rack in the system area.
Im curious how that works. It seems like the bikes will just be scattered around certain areas. Makes it easy when dropping off as you don't have to go back to a central spot. But picking up? May be inconvenient.

Found a little more info on it -
Quote:
SoBi works like this: The bicycles have built-in locks, enabling customers to leave the bikes at any old rack, preferably within a designated hub—a radius of a few blocks in which the bikes will primarily be available. However, cyclists would have the option of leaving the bike outside the hub zone for a small fee. GPS and "smart locks" allow customers to locate the bikes on their computer or phone.

The bike look cool and have up to 8 gears

Looks like a cool setup. Sounds better than the Bcycle I used in Denver.

Having gears on the bikes will be key for Atlanta's hills!

Apparently not everyone in NYC has been pleased by the bike program there. It wouldn't surprise me if many in Atlanta felt similarly.
