I'm not sure this is true. I think Turner Field could've been developed, but after 17 years, nothing was done. At that point, a substantial renovation of the ballpark was about to be due and there were no finalized plans to do anything around the ballpark. The window closed. It is a shame, because other cities developed very nice entertainment districts around their ballparks. Atlanta failed to act.

35,000 x 81 = A lot of people
Add on top of that the 1,000,000+ people who live northeast of the city and I think there is a pretty good base to build on.

The "I'm boycotting because it's not downtown anymore" crowd are a funny bunch. They seem to have a mentality that only downtown deserves entertainment and development. The ballpark will still be in a good area and accessible to much of the area. Time to stop the whining.
Well guess what, everyone doesn't live in Cobb, and I know a lot of people in Atlanta, the southern suburbs, and even Gwinnett say this is a bad location. They could've at least have been close to Downtown, so it'll be easier to get to. I love the Braves, but I'll just watch them on TV now.

I'm sure it doesn't need to be a destination to thrive. The workday crowd alone could probably keep it going even if there weren't dozens of games every year (you can't move in most of the local restaurants at lunch time, and bars get overrun at 5:00).

Boycott away, folks. There are more than enough fans and patrons in the burbs. You won't be missed.

I most likely will be going as my office is across the street. I hope they have some great lunch spots. I can also see myself going on the weekends as I live in the area. I'm someone who doesn't really enjoy baseball and look forward to going on non-game days.

I'm pretty sure it's going to be incredibly cheesy and nothing most people whose circle of travel extends outside their immediate suburb will get excited about. I'm still bitter over the stupid idea to move. The Braves and the CoA should have looked at how the area around Nationals Park is starting to come alive but no...

Once they build a marta station at the new stadium, all will be forgiven.

I suspect Cobb will do something pretty cool. They don't mess around up there.

I think this is the first time I've agreed with one of your post.

And you're basing on what? The snobbery is dripping from your keyboard.

Says more about you and the motivation behind your comments, doesn't it?

The city and surrounding community had about 50 years to turn the area into more than a bunch of parking lots and nothingness. They failed. There was no interest by the city to do anything, while at the same time they were negotiating the Falcons' deal.
