Moving to Atlanta over the summer and have basically determined that the kids will go to private high school. We are debating between Galloway and Woodward Academy. Does anyone have any input on either of these? My concern about Woodward is the distance and my concern about Galloway is that I am not sure how focused they are on the STEM subjects.

Thank you.

Unless you have applied and been accepted, you don't have a choice. Have you done this?

Woodward is a great school and there is a bus and a lot of kids ride MARTA. They get on their own car leaving.

But it all depends on the kid as to which is a better fit.

What part of town will you be living in and what are your kids like? Interests, personalities, etc.

Not sure which part of town yet (most likely, closer into downtown). Husband will be at Emory and doesn't want a huge commute. Kids are super smart and like science and math - one into sports, one not really into outside activities.

Woodward for math, science and sports. Lots of kids take MARTA and many drive.

If you are going to live near Emory (will be be at Emory campus/ main hospital or Emory midtown hospital), the commute won't be great, but it is doable.

As a parent, you will find that if you want to participate, you will spend a lot of time driving. But, I think given what you wrote, Woodward is the better fit.

I'd say Woodward in this situation but let your kids check them out.

What would be the advantage of Woodward vs. Galloway academically? I had heard that Galloway may be a bit more liberal arts focused, but this is just something that I heard and I am a total outsider to the community.

Woodward is much larger and will offer much more in the way of academic opportunities and extracurricular. I would say that Galloway trends heavily to liberal arts probably to much so for a kid who has identified as a math and science kid.

If you are looking to live around Emory or that general vicinity, Galloway really won't be that convenient either. So I don't think Galloway offers a geographic advantage.
