A new article in the AJC describes significant growth that is forecast for the southside.

I've wondered how the many projects in the movie business, access to the airport and general Atlanta growth, could do anything but bring significant growth to the southside.

Doug Hooker, executive director of Atlanta Regional Commission, spoke before an audience at the 13th annual South Metro Development Outlook Conference in College Park Wednesday. Also, Kennesaw State University Economist Roger Tutterow spoke at the conference.

Maybe they need to get a "Southern Arc" to take over Atlanta's role as a distribution center.

On what land would they build such a thing. Not in Henry or Fayette, the gop would most certainly lose votes that way.

I think the entire 100 mile radius of Atlanta will be eventually be poised for growth.

They can't continue building northeast and northwest.. and north in general forever. Well, I suppose they could up to the mountains, but lets all hope it never gets that out of hand. (as in full urbanization up to Dahlonega, Ellijay, Cleveland)

There is already growth on the south side of town, but I'm not sure it will take off like it did on the north side in the 90s.

The Southside is already the second largest market after the NE, at a massive 150 million + square feet of space. The Southside is perfectly set up to support Florida and the Port of Savannah, and 6 million sq. ft. of new space is under construction.

The NE side has the largest amount of space with slightly more than 175 million sq. ft., with 4 million sq. ft. under construction as a comparison.

I get a huge smile on my face whenever I see the new Porsche HQ as I'm taking off or landing at ATL. I think big things are going to happen around the airport and further south; it's got better transportation infrastructure than much of the north metro area with half the traffic, hassle, and cost.

Except that MARTA rail extends north. Less traffic though, for sure.

Marta rail is coming though, and eventually we'll have rail connecting Macon to Atlanta.
