I am actually familiar with White Columns, so I'll try to tell you what I know.

White Columns is in a beautiful area called Milton, used to be Alpharetta. Lots of horse farms. Very picturesque country estate living, very affluent area. White Columns has homes that are exquisite inside and out, they are all different. There are a lot of four sided brick, some beautiful shake and stone, there are beautiful hardisiding homes, and all built by local custom builders.

I personally like the golf course side of White Columns vs. the gated side. Gates are just a pain IMO. But, the positive of the golf course side is kids can ride bikes up to the club which has tons of activities, unfortunately the gated side does not have this ability, and the community as a whole has lots of children. The fees for living in the gated side are much higher, and the gated side is the side where a couple of houses may bump into the high school one day if it actually gets passed through.

Milton has wonderful schools and even though some people may not like new schools coming out to their area, others are looking forward to it, if it does get passed. I know there is an elementary in the works, but not sure what else. People with kids always like schools close by IMO.

White Columns has sidewalks, the houses are on one acre lots, 5 minutes away are conveniences. Grocery, bank, drycleaners, Chinese food, I Love NY pizza, wine, spa, UPS, and more. It is not a typical strip mall, it is quaint and the character of the shops blend into the surrounding area.

Resale values have increased dramatically since it is a golf and country club community.

If there are any financial problems or were any financial problems, they are probably long gone. The clubhouse has been redone and I know the golf course is considered one of the best private golf courses in the state of Georgia.

I built in S/O several years ago- toward the tailend of the development. It was a builder group development. So, there is a lot of different floor plans to choose from. I always thought it was a nice "up-scale" type neighborhood. It use to be in the Chattahoochee school district, don't know if it still is (new high schools since then and another on the way). It did have a "celeb" for a few years- Dion Sanders, when he first came to Atlanta.
And it did get a good black-eye several years ago- a trafficing drug dealer was busted in there.

Default Bumping this regarding the school comment:

Did those schools every get built? Where exactly is this land you are talking about that the schools would butt up against?

ok, thanks for the info. That's not right in the backyard of White Columns as in people's backyards! Which schools are those?

The Board of Ed abandoned plans to build a high school on Freemanville, in part due to community complaints about the location. They then built Cambridge High on Bethany Bend. In 2008 they intended to hold onto the Freemanville property as a site for a 3rd middle school, but I think currently they are just sticking with the addition for Hopewell MS. I'm sure at some point there will be the realization that we need more schools to keep up with the rate of development, but I don't know if Fulton Cty retains that property on Freemanville or not.

We did drive over there today and Birmingham Falls Elementary definitely is in the backyards of some of the homes on Glenover Drive. Something to consider when looking anyway. If they are seriously considering this area, they will look into that land and where it sits. Thank you!
