This is a great idea and will hopefully revive this area of town! Be sure to watch the video also.

I suppose this deserves its own thread, but if the Mims Park project is built, the huge beltline park that is planned for the rock-quary area, and the project in English Ave. described below.... then WOW. the Westside of Atlanta will not only rival the Eastside with Piedmont Park, Freedom Park, Virginia Highland, etc, but maybe end up being a lot better if there is a renaissance of highrise condo building on that side of town as well to go with it all.

I like this idea. That area desperately needs something anchor it revitalization. I think it will be rough transition though, but worth it. No reason for that area to be so crappy.

Here's an outline of the park : https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msid...07252,0.013937

Atlanta really is an exciting place. For a person into planning and all things city-data, it doesn't get much better.

What a great idea that will cost the city little. The westside is in great need of parks.

My thoughts exactly and it has one very key element that separates it from the near Eastside in relation to Downtown: There isn't a gigantic highway splitting the residential neighbohoods from the CBD.

If all goes well, this area of town should become to Downtown what the combination of Piedmont Park and the residential neighborhoods going east are the Midtown.

So excited about this!!! I live on the Westside and was already looking forward to the Beltline expansion of Maddox Park. This new one would be an added bonus. Very exciting!

ETA: I have seen the renditions of the Parks Pride project as well, with the series of small parks and making more retaining ponds and unearthing buried streams. It is a really ambitious plan and impressive. Also some of it has already started in beautifying the English Avenue school grounds and coordinating with Trees Atlanta to plant the tree scapes. The new Mims Park was actually also a portion of the Parks Pride plan.

That area has great connectivity to Downtown, Midtown, and West Midtown. The BeltLine and projects like this will go a long way in changing the image of the area. I like Park Pride's idea of the area too, with small pocket parks, the opening of Proctor Creek, and retention ponds. The new WalMart at West Village will help in turning this area from a food desert and will attract people to the area. There needs to be more eyes on the streets to deter crime.

Can't speak for all Westsiders, of course, but in general it seems like we're pushing more for midrise sorts of buildings on this side of town.

(But I like that can-do spirit!)
