Unless they have a source for that claim it is likely bull. Atlanta's airport has been around since 1926.

Got a link on that? I've always heard it was just that Atlanta built a big airport and gave Delta incentives so they moved here from Birmingham. And the rest is history.

Delta did not relocate from Birmingham, they started in Macon, GA in 1924 as a crop dusting company, moved to Monroe Louisiana in 1925, and moved to Atlanta in 1941.

The true story is Delta was considering Birmingham as home to its HQ and its airport as the hub, but due to the segregationist policies and actions of the Birmingham Commissioner of Public Safety, Bull Connor, they chose Atlanta due to it more pretentious motto "of being too busy to hate". However, we have come to find out that it wouldn't have made any difference because both cities have racial problems one just did it openly and gotten past most of it regardless of its reputation and the other one hasn't so its racial problems found a way into continue a more covert and nefarious fashion that still plagues it to this day... #truestory

If I recall, Atlanta airport came to be what it was because Hartfield went after the air mail route/hub. Birmingham would have been more central, but he went after it. I'm sure that Birmingham's very public incidents and hardline stance probably helped.

The Casino investors drawing even more interest.

Turner Field is being eyed as a potential site for a casino resort.

Three major casino gaming companies have joined MGM Resorts International in expressing interest in building a casino resort in downtown Atlanta, Mayor Kasim Reed said Thursday.

Reed said two domestic gaming companies and a third based overseas have asked to meet with him to talk about similarly huge investments. The Turner Field area is among the potential sites for a casino.

Summerhill, Pittsburgh, Peoplestown, and Grant Park will shoot that idea down fast.
