What can a person find in the city as far as martial arts schools?

Are there many Kung Fu and Karate styles represented in the city? What about Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu instruction?

Also just a curiosity question. Does anyone know when the first martial arts school was started in Atlanta?

Probably Joe Corley in the 1960s.

Mr . Corley is one outstanding man.
Hope you get to meet him and inquire about what he has to offer.

For kids classes most people in Buckhead/Sandy Springs use Atlanta Kick or Imperatori Karate. I have used both for my kids and have no complaints, but we haven't taken it to the next level, so to speak. I have heard that Traditional Karate Atlanta in Vinings is a very serious karate studio. Might want to take a look there. Atlanta Kick also has adult kickboxing and that new intense work-out program where you drag bags of sand around--forgot the name.

Atlanta has something for everyone. When I first moved to Atlanta, there was a large ninjutsu community here thanks to Bud Malmstrom. Unfortunately, Bud has retired from teaching, but many of his disciples are still actively teaching. There's also a good Krav Maga presence here. And of course, everything in between...

edit: been a while since I checked, but it looks like Bud is offering limited classes again! >

I highly recommend checking into his offerings!

My kids have taken class through Karate Atlanta for six years. They teach Songahm Tae Kwon Do. They have about 12-14 locations throughout the Atlanta area.

That's a style I've been checking out on youtube lately. I like their knife defenses.
