You can also use historicaerials.com. It's not the fastest site in the world and allows only a small viewing window (with LOTS of watermarking), but it has aerial imagery dating back in some cases to the early 1900s. It also lets you choose two years and fade back and forth between them to see changes. It goes back to 1938 for Riverside. Riverside was already quite built up in the late 30s, and moreso in the 50s and 60s. But it appears to be only houses as far back as the 30s.

You can get your soil tested through the UGA Agriculture Extension office. The website for the Fulton County Extension office testing service is: Testing Services | Fulton County

I live in Bolton and had my soil tested. The test came back normal. The nice bonus about the test results is that it comes in handy when gardening.

Thanks @space cadet. I didn't know that was an option. My husband will be glad to hear that because he is a huge gardener. We pretty much grow all of our vegetables so healthy soil is really important for us!

The area was developed as residential beginning in the late 1800s.

It has long been a solid working class Atlanta neighborhood, with some well to do folks sprinkled in.

There's a ton of history available.

For instance, see Judge Virlyn Moore's history on the Collins Memorial UMC website: History « Collins Memorial UMC

Also see Edmund C. Hughes' "Living by the Seat of My Pants": LivingByTheSeatOfMyPants

And lots more on the Atlanta's Upper West Side website: Neighborhoods
