Are there any huge abandoned buildings similar to Ponce City Market that needs to be redeveloped in Atlanta? With the success of PCM it seems like the city is hungry for more projects like this.....

That is a fortress looking structure. I wonder what will become of it? Anyone think it is worth saving?

There are at least a half dozen in south downtown.

A few examples.

The Southern Railway Building:

All of Hotel Row:

Can't find a good pic, but 206 Mitchell street is the old C&S (now Bank of America) Headquarters from before BoA Tower was built. It takes up an entire city block. Has a helicopter pad on the roof and all.

I don't think it is that fortress like. It is city owned and has been in terrible shape for decades. It might not be possible to save now. Also on the site talked about as part of MMPT. But it was a nice building back in its day:

The fortress-like appearance has more to do with the building's neglect than its design. The cinderblocks over the entrance and the boarded up windows aren't original. Its a nice example of early 20th century streamline moderne architecture, something we don't have a whole lot of.

I love the idea of the MMPT but a) at this point it's still a pipe dream and b) incorporating the few historic structures in the area into the design would enhance, rather than detract, from it.

PCM and KSM weren't much to look at either.

Nor were they part of the MMPT site.

I'd like to see the medical building near Civic Center Station used again, with the parking lot next to it filled in.

I'd rather see the Atlanta Constitution building be torn down to make way for a MMPT, or replaced by a new high rise, or both.

It may be old, but it's not beautiful or architecturally significant looking. It's just a basic, boring, brick office design. And it's in truly horrible shape.

Nothing wrong with demolition when/where appropriate. The plot itself is more valuable, being literally directly across the street from the central hub transit station. Needs to be something worthy of that location.

Yeah but it needs to be more people with money to live by those buildings for it to really work
