I would call it the Marthasville & Atlantic Reenacted Transportation Association

Agreed. Let these counties continue to lose jobs and sit in traffic till they figure it out.

Has MARTA ever been to Cobb (or anywhere else) on bended knee?

If so, why?

I would imagine one could include the 2012 TSPLOST in that category.

Definitely back when it was in the process of being formed (1965) and was promptly shot down by Cobb voters.

If Cobb had a MARTA vote in 2018 or 2020, it would pass. Assuming grassroots organization getting the word out and such.

It won't pass by more than a few %, but that's all you need.

It never had the opportunity to go to voters. The county commissioners never passed the initial vote.

Yeah, to my knowledge, Cobb County voters have never had the opportunity to vote yes or no for MARTA. Which everyone always assumes otherwise. Popular misconception.

Whereas Gwinnett voted and rejected MARTA twice. (But maybe third time's a charm.)

Seems like it would have crazy for Cobb to take on mass transit at that point. The county had a density of maybe 500 people per square mile, which is about 1/10 of what most source say is necessary to support mass transit.

You're right, planning for the future is crazy.

Voting no for MARTA is crazy in any circumstance. It's a huge plus for the economy, traffic relief, and general quality of life.

99% of the counties of this country, especially in the southeast, will never have the opportunity to bring heavy rail into their county. To have that chance and pass it up is a short-sighted mistake.
