Very nice, thanks.

Repped.

Although, to begin with, my establishment(s) will be purely drive-thru, I am researching and taking note of every form of coffee-related offerings in the ATL area. I love what I'm seeing.

There is a new coffee shop in Smyrna that opened up fairly recently. It's called Rev Coffee. I plan on going there this week, but from what I have heard, it is a very cool place. Plus, it's the only locally owned coffee shop in the Smyrna/Vinings area, which makes it even better!

I've been there. Yes, it is nice. I'm thinking it's off of Spring Rd. north of Atlanta Rd.

I live on the east side of town, so I can't speak to the area that you're looking at. However, there are several good independent coffee shops here that thrive -- I just think you want to make sure you're in an area where people avoid chains. If no one minds drinking "corporate coffee" in that area, that might hurt you.

I think having *good* coffee and desserts/ice cream is a good idea. I think doing it as a drive-through is really iffy, though. I know that ice cream and cars don't mix for my kids AT ALL, but maybe we're all just uncoordinated! Also, if I'm buying pastries, I want to see them first. For that reason, I'd say that having parking and tables/umbrellas would be key. I think locating near the amphitheater is a super idea...

I really appreciate that input. Thanks!

I do, in fact, foresee the coffee/espresso/pastries/muffins portion catering to the driving customers, while the ice cream portion catering to the sit-down (benches/tables....think Bruster's) and amphitheater customers. (Oh, there's a new library within a block's distance.)

My bottom-line will be:

a) Quality. This is absolutely key. I mean, really, why else come to us??

b) Service (keep the commuters moving. A double-sided service window is a MUST) and "Friendliness". I want to establish repeat customers as well as be part of the community at large. I eventually want our customers to enjoy such a connection/relationship with us that, when we see them coming, their drink, etc., will already be in the works.

c) Prices ALWAYS less than Starbucks

Oh, and by the way, that old marketing addage that you can pick any two of these (listed above)? Well, we'll be striving for all three. And, I think there's a great chance that we'll hit them!

Thanks again.................

I'm really pleased that so many in here like the indy aspect of all this. I want my place to have a "local" feel, while also catering to the Starbucks rebels!

If I do expand, I probably won't have more than 3 in the entire metro area.

Sweettea1 - have you tried Java U at the intersection of Mt. Vernon Hwy and Jett Ferry Rd.? Finally got around to it this past weekend and it's really great! Full breakfast/lunch/dinner menus and they don't burn their coffee!!!! Apparently it is a Montreal, Canada-based franchise and that is the only location in the US. The interior decor is great. Go there for coffee or something this weekend and check it out, my wife and I loved it. We will no longer be going to either of the Starbucks' located in D'wood.
