No would be a lot more than $143 million dollar development if it was a 2nd headquarters and Microsoft hasn't announced any type of plans to pursue a second headquarters outside of Washington. Apple & Google essentially have 2nd headquarter campuses in Austin.

It's beautiful up there the weather sucks, though it's so isolated. If a lot of these tech companies are serious about their outreach in increasing blacks they need to set up more operations in cities that have huge black populations though. Blacks are spread out on the West Coast and Austin isn't a magnet for them either.

The 143 million is just for the site isn’t it? Not for the potential development on it. And it’s a 70 acre site

Yes you're correct I misunderstood, the land was sold for $127 million.

Article has been updated, says Bill Gates foundation has nothing to do with it that it's solely a Microsoft purchase.

That's too bad, but I'll still take it.

If it's just $127 million for the land only. They probably have plans to build something big. Microsoft is also renting out the entire Atlantic Yards nearby. Looks like that area will have heavy Microsoft presence. This coming off the news Google and Facebook expanding their presence in Atlanta... looks like a tech boom could be coming in Midtown and surrounding Georgia Tech.
