I will be moving to Atlanta within the next two to three months. Can someone advise we on the area of Decatur? Is it a nice area to raise a family. I will more than likely be renting an apartment so what apartment complexes are nice in the area or surrounding areas. I want to live close to the city so my commute won't be so long for work. How are the schools near Decatur. I have a three year old son whom will be four in April so I need to be thinking of a school for him to be in for Kindergarten. Help!!!!!!

If you're talking about the City of Decatur then it's a great place to raise a family and has excellent schools.

As far as commute....depends on where you will be working.

I can't help you with apartments, but if you have the budget for it you might also be able to rent a small house.

You should also be advised that there is a large swath of DeKalb county that calls itself Decatur, but which is not inside the city limits of the City of Decatur. It makes a difference, particulary for services and schools, but also higher property taxes in the city itself. Taxes will not be as much of an issue for you if you are renting. Also, there are some nice rental options within the City of Decatur.

Like everyone has written - make sure that you will be living in the City of Decatur. I think that the zip code is exclusively 30030. Check out the website of the City of Decatur at City of Decatur, GA . It also has an excellent school system and many families move there for the schools. Another good school website is GreatSchools.net

Good luck!
