I am an African-American, Single Parent who is looking to relocate to Atlanta this summer. My job will be in the city. I will take classes as well that are in the city, maybe twice a week at the most. I commute now to the city of Washington DC and live about 1 1/2 hours away in a town of about 15, 000 people. The people speak to one another and would help another no matter the color of skin. Some crime but very little. So, a commute is ok. We will be making several short trips to Atlanta from now til school closes to check out towns, schools, etc. Hoping to find an area that is pretty safe to take a walk if we chose to do so.

I have a child that is in High School, recently diagnosed with ADHD (moderate). The current high school is diverse with majority white kids about 60%, then black, hispanic, mixed, other races. The current high school has a rating of about a 6. My child is not an over-achiever or a straight A student. But very easy going and happy B-student.

Do you know of any high schools, outside the perimeter, where the majority of the teachers are caring and help kids when they may not be doing well, that push the kids to do better? A high school that seems to have a more positive environment, more about maybe helping one another than having to have A students, no weapon or fighting issues or bullying? An administration that cares as well?

I have looked at some of the posts about some high schools but the posts are like six years old or older and things could have changed. I have been doing some research and have a couple schools on my mind based on on-line reviews. I want to see if any of the schools pop up in the responses I receive, or if any other schools pop up that I can add to my list for consideration.

Any comments on great family-oriented communities, town house or single family home developments, or towns are welcome as well. Renting at maximum of $1500 per month.

I hope to receive responses and please be a bit detailed and very real, if what I seek, is not so realistic.

Thanks in advance for taking the time to help us out with your response.
