I think you hit the nail on the head! The audience is missing that sense of Schadenfreude.
They need more uncovered mold, rot and renegade vermin for the couple to react to as well.
Zombie House Flipping is at its best when they rehab a hoarder house.

You're both exactly right. There's no conflict. And you can't have drama without conflict.

Tarek would never have spent another 500$ to plug the hardwoods just so they're matching lol.

I finally managed to catch an episode of this. I thought the couple were kind of generic, but I liked that they were willing to spend a little bit here and there when they didn't really have to. Their project turned out great.

Ugh. That's exactly what bothers me about almost every home renovation show, with Love It Or List It being the absolute worst. It's a non-stop series of "Oh my god. We just took down a wall and found a hoard of homeless cats living here and we're already over budget and we just don't know what we're going to do!" Five minutes later: "Now, we went to replace the water heater and found that every pipe in the house is filled with snake vomit and we're already over budget and we just don't know what we're going to do!" Two minutes later: "No, I hate the new cabinets but we're already over budget and we just don't know what we're going to do!" One minute later: "Oh wow! Look at this perfectly renovated house!!"

So. Much. Fake. Drama. I haven't yet gotten to watch Flip or Flop Atlanta, but if it actually is just a solid renovation show without a bunch of made-up drama fluff, I'm going to enjoy it.
