I work in the type of sector where WFH is considered extremely difficult.

But guess what? We're doing it. So far, it seems to be working very well. If I knew I'd be doing it long term, I'd set up my home office a bit differently, but aside from not having the two monitors that would help me out a bit, my productivity has not suffered one bit. If anything, I probably get even more done.

I'm not saying I want to be totally WFH, but I think a lot of companies may realize this can be an actual thing and shrink their real estate footprints as a result. Something I've been wondering is if demand from the employee side might help drive it since we're proving it works just fine.

One interesting thing is my co-workers are all over the map. Some are like me and doing just fine. Others are starting to go a little stir crazy. It's a really interesting time, and I'm trying to focus on all the societal positives that I hope come out of what we're going through right now.

I love having two monitors. Once you get used to it, it's hard to go back to one.

I use a 24 inch monitor and my laptop screen. A little uneven. But better than just one.
And yea I don't know if I'd want to do WFH all the time, but definitely a few days a week.

I telework 4X a week & have 2 27inch monitors at my house wall mounted. Love the desk space I have by having the monitors off of the desk & the 27 inch dual monitors is perfect for working on spreadsheets.

I also have dual 27 inch monitors. Love them!

I have desks at home and work that can raise to accomodate standing. Game changers!

Does anyone know spots around the city that have public WiFi access? Such as a park, city bench, etc. for a change of scenery from home

The wfh mandate kind of makes me wonder if employers will think "do we really need all this office space?" Personally like going into the office. We collaborate on a lot of projects and there is also a huge social aspect to it. It does seem like emails get answered a lot faster now that we are wfh.

After all this is over, I think companies will definitely do detailed WFH planning (network stress testing, etc). But I don't see a widespread change in WFH policy coming. I just don't feel like corporate execs (outside of IT) are going to be good with employees WFH 3 days or more per week.

What might happen though is self-selection - employees who got a taste of WFH for the first time and found they liked it will seek out companies who offer it.

Some people can’t effectively WFH, so it won’t totally go away.

What this might also do is to reduce the need for dedicated workspaces and move towards hotdesking (now with proper cleaning!) and shared workspaces for when people do come in.
