Interesting. One of the first annexations I've seen that makes geographic sense! 285 and 78 make nice logical boundaries.

I was referring to another post that stated Smyrna should try to annex ITP.

I said it should annex the West Village area which is OTP and Cumberland which is both in and outside the Perimeter and no worries, it's not "Vinings."

While for about 99% of the land you speak of does not have an Atlanta 30339 address, there is one big significant company which is OUTSIDE of 285 and has an Atlanta 30339 address - That is Home Depot's HQ and also the Paces Summit office building directly across Paces Ferry Rd. next door to the Fairfield Inn.

Also, this may come as a shock to many. Postal addresses don't always follow municipal lines. There are parts of the City of Smyrna which have a Mableton 30326 address.

Bottom line, the Postmaster determines the zip code and municipality for an area, not the local mayor and city council.

The City of Smyrna would be thrilled to annex the Home Depot HQ as it would be big addition to the tax base.

It actually does include the Home Depot HQ, the "Home Depot" listed on the map is where the store is (HQ is OTP).

Smyrna should not annex the Mableton part south of Vinings Estates.

Out of curiosity, why?

I don't think it's necessary to spread its footprint south. The gaps around its existing borders (or in it) should be filled and again, include the eastern fringe around 285/Cumberland area, since it's close to the heart of Smyrna and not already a place like Mableton. Even though Mableton is unincorporated, it still has its own history etc.
