This extensive article from Curbed Atlanta makes a very good case for it.

Brewers, developers, creatives, and other entrepreneurs call the village an up-and-coming, historic gem among metro Atlanta downtowns—its reputation be damned

Why the hell not?

Such a great little area, so glad to see it bouncing back.

The main thing that would hold it back IMO is lack of MARTA rail connectivity which I personally feel heavily influences Downtown Decatur especially in terms of walkability (in comparison to DT Stone Mountain atleast) although its no slouch for pedestrian activity.

Agreed, they really should run some kind of semi-express service between the Village and Kensington station.

A robust Metro Atlanta commuter rail system would be a game-changer for Stone Mountain Village.

Possibly, not 100% sure but possibly... I'd definitely welcome it - but there is still a difference - The MARTA runs throughout the day where as commuter rail only operates through commuter hours (like 5am - 9am and 3pm - 7pm) putting pedestrians in an island so to speak when they need transit outside of those windows... Plus Decatur is much closer to the core making MARTA rail more viable (more nodes local to Decatur within its positioning). I think Stone Mountain's downtown even with commuter (and possibly even Heavy) rail will still be a bit more suburban, but it would still help and it should still be done.

What??? Who ever said commuter rail can only run at peak periods? Most commuter systems run some form of all day service.

Only ones I know that do are Chicago and NYC.

Seattle, San Fran, L.A., Minneapolis, DFW only run through rush hour commuting hours.

... Looked up Brightline and they seem to run 5am to 9:30pm.... so I guess it depends on the service.... If its going to run all day though I'd rather see MARTA rail as to eliminate the need to transfer.
