Based on Gwinnett's most recent MARTA votes, I'm not so sure demographics determine all.

We need more walking connections. Large swaths of the metro are inaccessible by foot. It seems kind of nuts honestly.

And/or just plain uninviting for a pedestrian. Like this scene is in the city of Atlanta, forget the suburbs:

Of course no one rides the MARTA bus, if it's a freaking pole in the dirt on the side of the highway, with no sidewalk. And that's when it's not raining/ miserably hot out.

Not to mention the "lean" bars MARTA has replaced several benches with. MARTA treats its customers like trash. It is no surprise there is such opposition to transit, if you've ever ridden the bus you can see why.

There's just no use for it in East Cobb.

I don't get what that even means. No use for it? So if you lived in East Cobb, you wouldn't drive a couple miles to the nearest heavy rail station along I-75 to park & ride, with a single seat cheap ride to the airport, or to lots of jobs in Midtown and Downtown, completely bypassing rush hour traffic jams on the freeways?

Because that's what both Cobb and Gwinnett could have had already in place decades ago, if they had been forward thinking (and less racist), and joined MARTA from the start. Seems like that would be useful to me.

It's just a shame to me that there exists these in-town MARTA stations like North Avenue, but most of the OTP people who work at an office right there, can't even get to the nearest MARTA station to make it worth it to ride. So those urban stations can't get near as much use as they should be able to get.

So long as there's a heavy rail backbone system (which most US cities don't have), then it should go to where all the people live around there. There should be a line up I-75 to Kennesaw or so, 400 to Alpharetta, and I-85 to at least Duluth or Suwanee, or the Mall of GA. I just don't understand, why create MARTA in the first place, just to never use it to its potential?

A heavy rail system was awarded, a unified regional transit system was created, and it was intended for the 5 counties that it's been needed in for forever. And 2 of those counties still haven't even joined the system. Which, now Cobb and Gwinnett are finally turning blue and Democratic, and they still are gonna find ways of blocking and thwarting MARTA. It's like a forever joke.

To take it to the most simplistic level, the State. I blame them more than anyone else, their power over MARTA has hamstrung them since their inception.

Is it worth for a couple cheap rides to the airport, I don't believe so. People could drive to Sandy Springs if they wanted to use Marta.

Obviously the majority of folks would rather drive their own car, then deal with Marta.

They obviously thought it was a good idea, but folks who live outside the city never took to it.

Correct.

Gee, I wonder if the fact that there are zero stations in Cobb or Gwinnett counties (where everyone lives), has anything to do with that choice? And barely enough stations in the counties that do have it?

If Tucker had a station, if Alpharetta, or Stone Mountain had stations on the line... then more people would ride the train... instead of driving and clogging up those roads with more and more cars.

Make transportation in Atlanta sustainable... give people decent options to bypass all the car congestion.

People are always like... oh MARTA is useless... yeah, but only because you chose to make it useless...
