I am bringing a group of 22 students and about 5 chaperones to see the Clay Army and King Tut exhibit. We are going to see the King Tut exhibit in the morning and the Clay Army exhibit in the afternoon.

Does anyone know of a good place for us to eat lunch in between the exhibits?

Where is The Varsity Downtown located in relation to these exhibits?

Does anyone have any advice in regards to planning this trip?

There are a number of other posters who can respond more succinctly --

The King Tut exhibit is displayed in the Atlanta Civic Center on Piedmont Ave and the Clay exhibit is housed in the High Museum. I estimate (albeit poorly) the two locations are 4 miles apart.

The Varsity is located on North Avenue which is roughly 'in between' these two locations.

That might be a good choice for your group.

Here's a thread that might give other suggestions>>

I imagine someone more familiar with the area or managing groups will have additional thoughts for you. I know there are many interesting places to eat in this area. Cannot seem to think of any right now.

Sounds like a good trip.

I think the Varsity is a pretty good location to both sites. It has some historical significance after all.. and it is very Atlanta, if that matters.

I agree with Take, it would be very easy to get from either (or both exhibits) over to the Varsity.

I vote for the Varsity based on the following:

1. It's inexpensive.
2. It's an Atlanta icon.
3. You could also do a history lesson while "dining" there. The Varsity :: What'll ya have!

For Southgeorgia, here are the links on the exhibits:

Some suggestions in addition to the Varsity...I can't say that I like the food there, but it's big and it's definitely an experience.

Zesto's on Ponce is pretty neat...544 Ponce de Leon, 404-607-1118. It's just past Monroe Dr., a couple of blocks down Ponce from where you'll be on Piedmont.

Woody's might work too...it's small but there is a lot of outdoor/picnic table seating, and the cheese steaks are delish. At the intersection of Monroe Dr. and Virginia Ave. 981 Monroe Dr, (404) 876-1939 It's across from Piedmont Park, you could even take them there to eat.

I always like American Roadhouse...842 N Highland Ave, (404) 872-2822. I found this description of it:
Quote:
American Roadhouse is a big, family-friendly, utilitarian restaurant popular for its generous portions and down-home service. It's a good choice for finicky children or big groups seeking a casual lunch spot or a weekend brunch destination. Most know the eatery for its sandwiches, burgers and meat loaf specials.

Willy's Mexican Grill is a good place for a group of kids...it's a walk-up-and-order type with big outdoor tables, and it's on Piedmont Ave on your way to the High. 1071 Piedmont Ave, (404)249-9054

There are also a bunch of restaurants (Moes, Doc Greens, Cheescake Bistro, California Pizza, Subway, TinDrum) at Atlantic Station that might fit the bill, plus parking would be easy (free for 2 hours). Atlantic Station is located close to the High Museum. You can look up their restaurants on Atlantic Station® - Life Happens here.

Not as exciting as some of the other suggestions, but a convenient, inexpensive and well-liked option would be the Chik-Fil-A in Colony Square and easy walk block down Peachtree.
