Bay Area (Walnut Creek, Pleasant Hill), Transplant... Please Help
Hi, I'm moving to Atlanta to work in the 30315 area. I'm from the Bay Area (Walnut Creek, Pleasant Hill: 15-20min drive to San Francisco) and I'm looking for that similar small town, quaint shoppes, and good local restaurants all w/thin a small walk or maybe short bike ride. I don't like suburbia and I'd like to be very close to Atlanta and work. Any suggestions?
Thanks for reading.

I lived in GA briefly now twice and now live in Walnut Creek. Hope you have a pretty secure job. But my suggestions would be the city of Decatur (there is a difference between Decatur and the city of Decatur), Vinnings, Midtown area would be my suggestions. When are you moving?

Mmm, after re-reading your initial post I need more info. Walnut Creek and Pleasant Hill are very suburban and where you live depends on if you have kids too. Alpharetta and Roswell are really nice areas too and are very similar to WC and Pleasant Hill. It really depends on what you are really looking for. Also, Buckhead is nice option too.

Thank you bay area girl. I'm walking distance to Tomatina (1325 N Main St) and I like the small city, local eateries, pubs, and movie theaters at my doors steps. I don't have any kids so I'm looking for a young neighborhood. I'm not a fan or suburbia or a neighborhood next door to a gia-normous shopping mall. I'd like to live near work and downtown Atlanta in case I'd like to get into the city. I'm being offered a job in Atlanta (30315) and Macon. I'm not looking to make a final move for another month or maybe a bit more. Thanks again for reading.

Have you been to GA and checked it out yet? PLEASE do this before you make a final decision. I wouldn't move to Macon if you want that city feel. I'd go with the Atlanta option and would strongly recommend Midtown, Buckhead, Vinnings, and the City of Decatur and would take Roswell and Alpharetta off the list. PM if you have any questions from time to time. BTW, I also live close to N. Main!

I totally agree with Midtown, Buckhead, Vinnings & I also grew up in the bay area (born & raised) & now reside in Atlanta. Little 5 points located in the Virginia Highlands area is great to get that Berkeley (Telegraph) feel. That area is like Berkeley or Oakland (the nice parts).
