Instead of getting dollars in their G-strings, the dancers now have pouches on their legs and get quarters for tips, instead.

Merin's idea of pawn shop would be good - or maybe a second-hand clothing store. More and more people are buying "pre-owned" stuff now.

Aries is right. In Atlanta, if you want business, you can never go wrong selling sex. If you have a problem with that... Hmmm... Maybe Atlanta isn't really for you... Lol. Just j/k.

-Entertainment, entertainment, entertainment.
Whether that means music, theater, dance or sex...
-Black hair care
-Chop Shop
-Waste Management
-Caribbean restaurants (there are actually a LOT LOT LOT of Trinidadian and Jamaicans in Atlanta, but not as many restaurants as other cities).

Of course, these involve med schooling which many may not want to fool with.

Dealing with dead people might take less time to train. At least it's a quiet job and you won't have to chit chat with your clients.
Adding to the above, health care is steady growth due also to the increasing age population - more people are living longer and require health care.

As far as requirements for 'dealing with dead people', it is less than med school, but you will still have to have an associates degree, pass the state boards, the national boards, and have a couple of years of apprenticeship (varies from state to state).
{seemed like the ex-girlfriend was in school "forever" to get that mortuary sciences degree...... Did I mention she is now an "ex"?

I don't think any of this is what you meant in your post though; sounds as though you were looking for more of a quick and casual startup - we would need more specifics on the type of thing(s) you're lookin to get into.

What about a bar/pub downtown that also serve good hamburgers and other comfort foods? Recession or no recession everyone loves to drink (they'll drink their sorrows away when they feel stressed over the thought that they can lose their job(s) and people will always take the good old fashion burger over some filet mignon dinner at an high-end place.
