Hey, I'm glad the folks of my new city represented us well. I think there are a lot of nice folks here in Atlanta, too. But then I've always believed that you generally get what you put out into the universe (with exceptions).

As someone else mentioned, there's a very wide mix. I fill the in the *moved here from the Carolinas* niche, I reckon'. If I didn't have such a weird work schedule, I'm sure I would have met more folks by now.

On another subject that came up in this thread, I was at Corndogorama this afternoon and early evening. Not a rap group in sight (not that I would have minded that ... I'm just sayin' I heard a lot of good bands, and none were rap or hip-hip; closest thing they had was an R&B band, and they were GOOD).

There are several people in the MN forum who seem convinced that all Minnesotans do the same thing.

It's amazing what people will say about a place that *they* can't fit into.

There is no one person or group that represents Atlanta. When you come here, you will meet residents who moved here from L.A. Next door to them might be a couple from Vermont, then a gay couple from the West Coast, and someone from Florida, while across the street might be one "native" metro Atlantan and maybe someone from the Carolinas. In other words, Atlanta is now one of those cities where "everyone is from somewhere else", so you'll meet a wide variety (good to bad) of folks here. Don't let any jerks you might meet from here make you think everyone from here are jerks, but by the same token, if you meet nice bubbly people don't assume they're all like that here, too. It's MUCH more varied than most people realize once they get here.

Either way - you have a variety of neighborhoods and intown/suburban areas to pick from, so you shouldn't have a problem finding a niche once you're here.
Greg, such a scenerio of "neighbors" seems what you'd more or less find in Decatur or John's Creek, not even most of the metro area.

What is typical of seven families:

3 native metro Atlantans
1 native Georgian (outside metro Atlanta)
1 southerner (outside Georgia)
2 others (usually outside the South, but sometimes a foreigner).

Well, I do have a needlepoint pillow that says, "If you don't have anything nice to say about anybody, come sit next to me."

One of the reasons I have always wanted to immigrate to the US has been the fact that I was welcomed so warmly by the people of Atlanta. I made life long friends there that will stay with me forever... The same can't be said for the friends I grew up with and have not heard from in years.. Atlanta and its people were wonderful to me.

LOL. I think that line or something similar was used to great effect in Steel Magnolias. While the movie laid it on a bit thick, I found it to be a pretty good portrait of small-town Southern life.
