I am trying to get a feel for the housing market.... as it stands. Currently, are homes moving? How quickly and at what sacrifice? I have a house in Alpharetta/Johns Creek and may be moving as soon as the school year is over. I am just wondering when I should consider slapping that sign in the yard -- or if I should wait, keep the house, and rent it out. Anyone have any recent experience?

Houses still seem to be moving if they're priced well. How much "sacrifice" that will entail depends on when you bought, and how much you need to get out of the house. If you bought in 2005-2007 timeframe, it's likely that you're going to take a big hit on the price- if you got in earlier than that, it might not be as bad, but don't expect to make a killing unless you've been in your house for quite some time.

Selling is of course ideal, but you might consider renting it as well. That depends - some people don't like the hassle, but if you find a decent property manager, then you can just collect the money and wait and see how the market goes in a couple of years.

leasing the property would be a good idea.. make sure you get a licensed real estate agent to help you.
